Day THree - August 2, 2007

The group continued editing the blog today. We used Movie Maker (which Jeff learned in yesterday's workshop), Audacity, and flicker.com (where Jan got some great pictures.) Tiffany worked really hard and completed the sound, and Rex learned a lot (his mother was right about his speaking too fast and too loud, but, hey, he's in Toastmasters!). Tammy heard our audio, and recommended that we normalize the sound quality. Tonight we are going to make it into an image-enhanced podcast, and we look forward to sending it to Joan, who we have thoroughly enjoyed working with, and has been a wonderful mentor!

Day Two - August 1, 2007

Today we worked on the script, revised it, and began editing our podcast by recording it. R sent Joan the first draft in the morning. She returned it before lunch with some comments, and the group wrote a second draft together. Joan met with us after lunch and discussed the second draft. After a little more revising, we began recording the script. As this is being typed, J and T are editing the Podcast at the DoubleTree!

Day One - Where We Are

Joan, the Curator assigned to our group, took us to the Manatee Exhibit (on the second floor) and gave us a short tutorial on the US West Indian Manatee. We learned, among other things, that the Manatee was a good food source for Native Americans, it is a herbivore, that it has a place in mythology, and that it is an endangered. We then brainstormed, and drew up a rought draft for our script, which will be:
Part One - The Manatee in Mythology
Part Two - Basic Facts of the Manatee
Part Three - The Endangered Status of the Manatee
Part Four - The Magic of the Manatee (interview with Joan)
